Re: How to polish internals

Hey MadBomber and others who are doing this. DO NOT USE WD40. It is a petrol base and WILL DAMAGE your O-rings. This was not such a big deal on the A5 because there wasn't that O-ring by the power tube. After you have finished the polish, by all means spray some WD-40 on a paper towel and wipe out your internals (it will displace the water and make for a good prep prior to assembly) but then remember to wipe it out dry again. The WD-40 is just used as a final cleaning agent, not as a lubricant in your marker.

The other thing to notice is that after you have polished the inside all spiffy, it's easy to use to much oil. At least, that's what I found.

As for using a dremel, there was a guy on the spec-ops forum that mentioned using one along with jewelers polish... presumably and ultra-low abrassive polish. He said that by the time he was done, the inside of his X7 was literally a mirror. Just remember to be carefull.

Karma, I'm not sure if this voids your warranty. The manual doesn't mention it, I would phone Tippmann.

- Ryan

PS: Did anyone else have their powertube glued to the darn O-ring also ?

Re: How to polish internals

My O-ring on the side of the receiver did not appear to be glued in at all. It popped out with no hint of CA glue, with which the manual says it's installed. So I didn't bother with any glue for reassembly, and it works fine. Sounds like they saved the glue on mine and got extra on yours.

I to had one of my orings glued to the Powertube, I figured I wouldent bother with it, if it works fine the way it is I have no problem with it being glued to the tube, But if my gun starts actin weird, that'll be the first place I look, Im going to replace it anyway just for the mear fact I want her in Perfect condition.
for those that have allready Polished the Intrernals of your X7" Did you notice any better performance?
Did it start shooting better or worse, breaking paint more or less?
did your FPS go up?
How long did it take you to do the job.
and did you Replace the Glued Oring?

I havent seen a X7 repair parts kit for sale any where yet, will the A5 Repair kit work on the X7s glued Oring, I know many parts are interchangable, but does the kit come with that size Oring?

I did this a couple of weeks ago. the Fps did go up about 10 or so. I did see a dif in the consistency of the shot placement in other words it became more accurate. I reused the Oring I have had no problems with it at all I did not reglue it. I imagine that the glue is just to help in assembly. as for how long it took maybe 15-20 min. it took longer to do my buddys A5 that took almost an hour. we use about 5 brillos on his A5 I used 1 on the X7. the A5 had a tremendus amount of overspray.

Re: How to polish internals

I think you're right about the glue being for the assembly line. A virgin O-ring probably doesn't want to stay seated in its casting groove during assembly. A replacement O-ring would act the same way. But when I pulled mine out, it had been in the position long enough to lie flat when replaced, even without glue.

Re: How to polish internals

Well, I've had this thing for a day and already took it apart to polish it. Just did a quick job but I'll be getting the buffing disc and the dremel out tomorrow.

Here's 10 minutes worth of work with Mother's aluminum polish and a brillo pad:

Before:

After:

Wish I had known about the WD-40 trick back when I did my A-5. I can't believe how much stuff came off even when it looked clean.

Oh, and did anyone notice hairline imperfections on the inside of the metal? On one of my receiver halves (the one with the O-ring) there are some small ridges toward the back of the receiver. I'll try and get a good picture of it.

Yes I did! I was worried about it but talked to several people that had the same experience.
