Red Dot Conversion

This is a follow up of a thread that I had a couple weeks ago, so I wanted to wrap it all together in this thread of what I did.

I had obtained a free red dot sight during mid december. It was acually my brother's, and it was meant to attach to the side of a rifle.

I was happy to find this sight and decided I would use it for my paintball gear because my Phenom was in need of a sight.

Here are some pictures of the red dot when I first got it......

I decided that I was going to take off the side mount and attach two 30mm rifle mounts onto the red dot. This way it could attach to picatinny rails on most paintball guns.

So a few days later I went to Scheeles Sporting Goods, and bought me a pair of rifle mounts. They have a flatt balck finish and costed about $20.

I clamped the sight in a vice and removed the side mount with a hack saw.

Here are some pictures......

Then I smoothed down the rough edges with a bench grinder........

After making the edge flush, I attached the scope mounts.

I was amazed by how good the scope mounts fit because it was a tight area between the battery compartment and the sight. I love the new look, it seems natural on the sight.

Finally I attached the red dot to my Phenom..............

If you havent noticed yet, I love using pictures.

What do you guys think?

Re: Red Dot Conversion

Looks like it was made that way! But, on a side note, Picatinny rails are 20mm not 30mm, just a friendly critique. Either way, good job.

Re: Red Dot Conversion

oops... thanks for catching that

The packaging for the mounts say 30 mm scope mounts. Is it reffering to the diameter of the scope mounts???

Re: Red Dot Conversion

yeah. the 30mm is the id of the scope mounts. Looks really good though, like they were meant to be there. Self-made mods are always the best.

Re: Red Dot Conversion

Did you toss some flat black on the exposed metal to protect it?

Great job on taking that treasure scope from your basement and turning it into a kickbutt addition to your Phenom!

Re: Red Dot Conversion

Does anyone know of good offset rail that would look good with this sight?

The phenom cyclone is slightly indented into the marker, and it is blocking a small fraction of the view through the sight.
