I'm not buying the idea of buying a magfed to shoot less paint.
That can be done with any marker.
We play 30rd only games often, many guys simply put a cheap 50rd gravity hopper on their
Tourney electors and shoot semi only.
No one NEEDS a magfed to go limited ammo.
You go magfed to replicate real steel...

It's more than just shooting paint mate. Way more than just that.

It was fun playing with you folks out there back in 2010. That mag-fed scene was definitely different, especially when you and your team played the mercenaries. Too much fun.

It is just more than using less paint. The fact you have to carry all your paint in mags and reload on the field. You can carry a pod of unlimited amounts with mag fed. Its simply too difficult to sit during a regular game and re-fill your mags. In longer scenario games, yes, for sure you have time.

With that there is a different feel for a mag-fed game. I can't explain it, you just know the feeling.

Don't get me wrong. Before I played mag-fed I used tac-caps and 40 round hoppers on my pump and a-5/x7. I enjoyed it so much mag-fed was just the next step.

I wasn't very clear on making my point, you guys misunderstood me.

What I mean is if someone wants to shoot less paint to save money all you have to do is use an existing marker and SHOOT LESS...period.

I fully agree on the fact that magfed is its own experience and style.
And that's also part of my point.
You choose magfed for the magfed experience, not specifically to shoot less paint.

I don't understand the logic of going magfed to save money.
There are much better ways to do that.

Hope that clears up the point I'm trying to make.
If not, no biggie.

Nah, no worries, I got where you were coming from. Even though lot of do shoot a lot less paint, its not why we did it. If it was, like you said, they would be in for a surprise after learning its an investment to say the least.

Getting back on topic...

There are very few milsim players in my area and I hear little to zero chatter about magfed.
90% or more of what I see in my area is tourney markers/normal hopper fitted non-tourney markers. The remaining players run pump, pistol or limited ammo of some sort.
But "we" (my area) are behind the times in most things.
I can see fields not promoting magfed due to them selling less paint.
But for magfed to really grow I would think it NEEDS local field support.
I would love for my local field to promote a limited ammo day once a month in addition to their normal play styles but I really don't see it happening due to lack of support from players. I will make it a point to bring it.up with the owner on my next visit.

I suppose it does depend on your own geographic area. Not every field has a mix of all the types of play.

However, it only takes a few people to get the ball rolling and that sounds like that's what you are going to do.

I like the idea of magfed, for many of the reasons mentioned in this thread. I play limited ammo with a tac-cap, because I like the rush of "running out" and the strategy that comes into play. I am hoping to see more scenarios around limited ammo and tactical play as magfed gets more popular and accessible in my local area. There are a few players so far (Ghost I still need to go by Advoc's house and steal his Paradigm) and I think it will just get better. A lot of it has to do with organizing good games and showing that limited ammo can be fun too.
