Dono4lf 50 lb. CO2 tank. Steel or Aluminum?

I found two used 50 lbs Bulk co2 tanks with siphon tube. One is steel and the other aluminum.
Both going for the same price $180.

Which one should I get?

Re: 50 lb. CO2 tank. Steel or Aluminum?

Besides considering how quickly Co2 can errod the diffrent metals. I could be wrong but I think steel corrods quicker with c02. Either way, I would take the aluminum for weight reasons. Easier to carry around.

Re: 50 lb. CO2 tank. Steel or Aluminum?

Check their hydro dates if they have one? im not too sure how large tanks like that work, but dont you have to rent them and/or have a license for it?

Re: 50 lb. CO2 tank. Steel or Aluminum?

where are you buying them from. also check hydro dates on them. The last large co2 tank like that that i used was actually a rented one kinda cheap to rent to i think. Not sure if you have to have a license for one though.

Both were hydrotested in February 2010.
You don't have to have a license to buy them.

Re: 50 lb. CO2 tank. Steel or Aluminum?

You wont get quite that many though, because of bleeding it off, and i dont think you can drain it completely by filling tanks with it.

But im sure it will give you plenty of fills for the price to fill the tank.

My uncle used to rent on annually through his business and it worked pretty well, and it lasted long enough for us to play all weekend at the cottage... (around.. 8 of us)

Now we run air, and 8 scuba tanks for around 30 people at the local field lmao.
