Thumbhole Sniper Stock

Hi Guys, long time reader, first time poster

Do you guys know of anywhere (preferably in the UK or that will ship to the UK) I can get hold of a Thumbhole style sniper stock for my X7 Phenom.

I am aware that Dhallak used to make them over at scenario arms but I cannot find them anywhere else after 3 days of solid searching.

Cheers.

Re: Thumbhole Sniper Stock

Dhallak was the only one making them. Your only option right now is to mod one yourself.

Re: Thumbhole Sniper Stock

I was hoping that wasn't going to be the case as I don't even know where to start making my own. Can't even find and Airsoft gun that has that stock so i may chop it off.

Re: Thumbhole Sniper Stock

Actually from that picture i can pretty much get the exact dimensions of the stock attached to gun and all i'd need to do is possibly carve a model from foam and get a mould made up i guess. Hmmmm, arts and crafts week next weekend then

Could you post up a non-FB linked picture so I can see what you're talking about? What materials are you thinking about making it from?

I was playing around with the idea of using my CNC machine to cut laminated wood stocks and this thread got me thinking quite a bit. I don't have access to an X7 or Phenom at the moment for measurements and fitting, so I don't know if I'd be able to complete something in a time frame you'd be comfortable with for your build. But I'd be willing to give it a whack all the same!

Re: Thumbhole Sniper Stock

That stock is an SL-8 (civilian or rifle version of the G36). I used one on my old T-4:

I'm in the US, so I don't know what UK customs are like on real weapons parts import, but you might have an advantage in that it is distinctly a replacement part to make an assault rifle non-assaulty.

Here's how I got it: I went on hkpro.com, where there are tons of guys modding their civilian SL-8s with G36 stocks and grips. Most guys will try to sell you their SL-8 stock for US$100 or more, but you can get them for a fraction of that price. The entire stock is high-impact plastic, so it's really just a matter of figuring out where to cut or mod to attach to your phenom.

Re: Thumbhole Sniper Stock

This is the image of Dhallaks custom made stock.

I'd prefer to get it made from high impact plastic but am not adverse to the idea of getting it made from wood and then spraying it black with a few coats of clear on it.

I'm not in a major rush to get the build done but the sooner the better

If it helps I do have a spare stock/back plate floating around too, will try and get some photos of the phenom with exact dimensions up this week.

Cool. It would be a great help if you had graph paper to place the marker onto for photos, to assist in determining the scale - especially near the end cap / grip area so I can get the relationship between components correct. Also, a photo along side a yardstick would be helpful, focusing from the grip to end of stock.

I've gotta find someone local with a phenom so I can do my mockups and prototype, and that might take some time on my end. I'm hoping I can just borrow one from my local shop. They consign custom builds all the time, and might hook me up if I make a few stocks for them while I'm at it...

Honestly, the design time will take much longer than the actual build. I was thinking of using laminated sheets of CNC cut plywood with a fiberglass wrap for that composite look when finished with the right paint. Then it's just a matter of getting or making some X7 adapter plates. Maybe the aluminum smelter I'm about to build could help with that...

Re: Thumbhole Sniper Stock

Sounds awsome. I'll be watching with great interest. One thing you might want to keep in mind though is your mask with the stock. I use a car stock on mine with an I4 mask that lets me get my cheek in but I still use a carry handle with rail as a riser. A tough challenge but could advantageous to play with graphics to see if you can somehow keep the look but with a lower cheak rest or with a slightly tapered angle maybe. Just food for thought.
