Re: 72-year old great-grandmother tasered by police
Some situations are different, some require a taser, yes. Some don't. Taser is just the easy solution to every officer.
Officers got the job done hand to hand for 80+ years without a taser. Police need to learn the difference between when its needed and when its not, 90% of the time the solution could be fixed by talking or using your hands that you are TRAINED for in the academy. Any officer with a short temper, or hasnt been on the force for less than 20 years imo, should not have a taser. All these young cops you see on the media are the ones tasering people to death for litterly BS reason. Take the YVR tasering of last year. All he had to do is pick up his phone and ask for a translator, didnt try, one person said hes speaking russian.. This has been done before, and works. Its called a Operator. Press 0. Another issue with tasers, if they are not cleaned properly, and you taser somebody with HIV. and its not cleaned properly, and you use the same tips and taser another person, guess what? you just infected that person with HIV. And yes, Tasers DO kill. |

Re: 72-year old great-grandmother tasered by police
So.. If i inflict somebody with enough pain with a taser, that causes a massive heart attack, and they die. The cause of death is not from the taser? thats like saying the cause of death isnt being shot 4 times and bleeding to death. thats like saying Bullets don't kill people.
And to any law inforcement defending a taser, of course its going to be biased because its the easy way out of any situation. point and click, don't even have to get your hands dirty. The old ways worked. Tasers are causes of deaths, and theres history to back that up. Theres more than one way to subdue a person than using a taser. Go back to the old ways imo. |

Re: 72-year old great-grandmother tasered by police
Kudos to djhoot! I agree with his statements.
Having had to deal with prisoners in 20s, we didn't have the luxuray of the taser. Trying to physically restrain someone is a good way to get long term or permanant injuries. It's just not worth it when other tools are available. These tools reduce the risk to the officer and offender and benefits far out way the risks. Ganny asked for it, she deserved. I hope she pooped her pants! I don't think I could be a police officer. I've seen abusive ones, but there are also a hundred and plenty that are just average everyday Joes trying to do their job and keep people safe. I'm afraid I would have to just shoot an watch the swear filter in the back that fired shots at me an ran. I just don't have that kind of tolerance towards the criminal element I guess. Again, kudos to djhoot and the officer. And by the way, I live in the Austin area where this happened.

Well this statement right here show's a lack of understanding about tasers. The probes that are shot out of a taser are a one time use cartridge that has to be replaced everytime you use it. As far as tasing people and having them die from a heart attack or some other medical condition is very far and few between . Please get your fact's straight before you make a false comment on such a serious incident and yes I am prior LEO and I am biased because I do know the REAL fact's.

Re: 72-year old great-grandmother tasered by police
"105 people were killed in North America within the first 3 months of 2005 by police using 'non-lethal' high voltage TASER guns. It was shocking enough to read that 70 people were killed in North America in 2004 from being tasered by police, but now that number has been exceeded by 25% and was only the first quarter of 2005.".. There is alot more than this, but this is just an example.
Right now im trying to find the case where a person had been inflicted aids recently after being tasered. You cops can defend the taser all you want, you can say it's not lethal, but it is. Its like taking a elevator instead of 1 flight of stairs, just because you can. |

Tasers Greatest Hits
Most of these are videos of the tasering happening, and majority of them are just plain lazyness of the cops. Last edited by ShortBusCrew : 06-11-2009 at 04:32 AM. |
