HOW TO: Rhythm Innovation Magnetic Trigger Install

I ordered my Rhythm Innovation Trigger on Tuesday 9/23 @ 2204.
It shipped at 0900 the next day and arrived on Friday 9/27. That's pretty quick for the standard shipping with USPS. Kudos to Rick at RI for the fast shipping.

Check out the video Demo Here

Version 2 of the video is up!

What's in the bag:

Rhythm Trigger
Rhythm Trigger Guard
Allen Wrench
Rhythm Card
Rhythm Sticker
Air

What you need to install this trigger:

An X7 Paintball Marker
The RI Trigger
Common Sense

This is assuming you have already taken apart the marker and have the grip ready to dis-assemble.

1. Remove the two allen bolts from the bottom of the ASA.
2. Remove the Receiver bolt(long) at the bottom of the grip.
3. Remove the 3 small screws from the grip.
4. Remove the Safety switch by rotating it and pulling it out of the grip.
5. Set the top half of the grip aside.
6. Remove the stock plastic trigger guard and set it aside.
7. Remove the stock trigger group and set it aside.

Old/New Trigger Group Comparison:

8. Remove the LEFT side of the stock trigger plates so you can access the sear and sear spring.
9. Remove the Sear Spring and Sear and set them aside.
10. Gently pry the LEFT side of the RI trigger plate up. It is a tight fit by design. You want the LEFT SIDE UP so that you pry up on the plate. The pins are secured to the RIGHT side.

The inside of the RI Trigger Group:

I am going to link Rhythm Rick to this post so he may comment on the shiny "L" part below where the sear will seat. I do not know why this was done.
EDIT:

From Rick: "The "L" is where I machined away a section of the A-5 side plate so the X-7 sear would work. I will be making new ones soon so they will all be black."

11. Use your favorite lubricant/grease to lightly coat the sear and the portions of the trigger that slide against the trigger plates.
12. Install the sear and sear spring.

13. At this point, you may want to test out the adjustment of the strength of the magnet that adjusts the trigger return. The stock setting wil probably be fine but you have to remove the trigger group from the grip if you want to adjust it later.

14. Reverse install at this point.

Back view:

I really like the feel of the trigger. It feels more "tactical" and has nice smooth lines.

Cons:
Cost - It was 72 shipped to my house.
It didnt come WITH my X7 when I bought it?

Pros:
Hard Anodized Trigger Plates and Trigger
The pins are hardened and ground and attached to the Right trigger plate.
Adjustable Magnetic pull
Adjustable Rear Stop
The trigger feels good when you press it and not cheap like the stock plastic trigger.

Tech Notes:

You may want to have the battery disconnected before you put everything back together. I had mine installed and when I installed the RI trigger group and fired, it woulnd't stop untill I disconnected the battery.

I had to adjust the magnetic return setting to make it function properly and NOT keep firing when I let go of the trigger.

There is much less sideways slop now which makes it feel more like a real firearm and not a plastic toy. I think that Tippmann should offer the RI Magnetic trigger as an option.

Version 2 of the video is up!

Tech Tips from Rhythm Rick:

Here are a couple of tips on setting up the trigger:
1. Lube all the pins before installing the side plates, it will come apart much easer.
2. The best way to get the side plates apart is carefully pry it with a piece of macro line, that way it won't get dug up.
3. Use purple Loctite on the trigger travel set screw, keep it backed way out when you install the trigger, once you know the marker fires you can tighten it up to reduce the travel. If the travel is to close to the firing point you may get trigger bounce, if so back the screw out a little and it should go away.

RECAP:

1. The kit repalces the trigger plates( left and right) and the trigger itself( what your finger presses).
2. Negates the need for the trigger spring up front. The pull weight is controlled by an adjustable magnet.
3. Trigger Travel is adjustable via set screw.

It doesn't come with a solenoid because this is a replacement trigger and NOT an E-grip replacement. That would be the APE board you would want if you wanted a top notch board and solenoid.

This trigger only works with the E-grip.

Please let me know if you have questions.

Re: HOW TO: Rhythm Innovation Magnetic Trigger Install

Your welcome. I am leary about the E-Grip, I had a few issues with my BT E-grip and trying to stay simple. RT or Non-RT. I wish the e-grip was more waterproof, but that would not allow you to mod it with this trigger or use an APE board.

Always something to think about.

take care

Electronics in the weather are always going to be an issue. I have used both the stock WAS board and now the APE board in the rain with no issues.
